Emerald Pool
This is the centennial stamp of Zion for 2009. Unfortunately, no one seems to know where it was taken. It is a joke among the rangers. What a poor choice of pictures, when there are so many other iconic scenes in Zion. JG
We both teach elementary school. Two of our four children also teach school. We are able to enjoy our 7 grandchildren, because they all live within 20 minutes away. We also visit Zion just about every year. It is our favorite place in the world.
Magic Nature shutters the River, Reflecting the immortal, silver ribbon on the canyon floor.
Pin point lights puncture the night Sky, filling the ebony easel above the stalwart sandstone shadows,
Nothing moves, nothing whispers of time's eternal odyssey.
The elusive masterpiece crowds all awareness, flashing the undeveloped image into recalled memories eye.
The omnipotent Zion sky mixes the inseparable elements, etching the never painted still life into companion hearts.
The moment dissolves the brush strokes, hues, and canvas, painting a softer, silent good bye.
Driftwood Cheesecake Recipe
This is where Bear took me for our first date. (The restaurant, not the motel) We loved the cheesecake. The summer of '69 found a group of us ordering cheesecake every night, so we could get the secret recipe. Here it is: 16 oz. cream cheese, 1/2 c. sugar, 2 beaten eggs, 1 t. vanilla, sprinkle of cinnamon. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Pour into a graham cracker crust. Bake 25 min. at 325. Cool. Topping: 1 c. sour cream, 1 t. vanilla, 5 T. sugar Mix well. Spread on cooled pie. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake at 350 for 5 min. Chill. Driftwood restaurant is no more. I talked to the chef at Parallel 88, the new owner. I asked him to try to put it on the menu during our reunion. We'll see if he does. Jeff Crosland has a fabulous menu in his fancy restaurant.
Red Rock Rondo concert
Bear and I went to Zion in May this year and attended the Red Rock Rondo concert and premiere of their PBS hour long video. Hal Cannon, former Zion employee (the tall one) produced the video. If you go to www.redrockrondo.com you can print the words and pictures of the Zion song cycle. We will see them on Sat. night for our reunion.
Reenacting - 1st Date
Jacque was writing a letter to a missionary by the post office when Bear said, "Walker thinks I ought to ask you out..."
Yes!
We had time for 3 dates that last week before we left for BYU.
Hiking the trails
We took our two oldest grandkids with us on this trip.
Zion Tunnel Walk
What an wesome view!
Rare Treat
I remember stopping our car at the window overlooks. It was a rare treat then and on Aug. 28, 09, about 300 people were allowed to stop on foot at the windows.
Wish I had been there...
My friend, Linda, (in pink) sent me these pictures. Remember what fun we had walking through the tunnel!!
