Zion Reunion Committee

From left to right: Marianne Poulton Tower, Peg Bodell, Jacque Soulier Garber, Bear Garber, Ron Woolf, Mike Tower, Neal Ahlstrom.

Peg called in July of 2008 and arranged for us to meet at Ron's house to discuss what we could do to meet for our 40th reunion. All of us had worked at Zion in 1968. We had previously had two other reunions for 20 and 25 years and they were a blast. As we started our quest, we realized that we only had phone numbers from the last reunion. Jacque started calling that summer (about 120 phone calls all over the country) as well as whitepages.com. It was so fun to talk to people that loved Zion too, and relive some memories. As we got into it more and more, we realized that the park didn't want to work with us for 2008, because they wanted us to come for the 100th celebration of Zion in 2009. That made sense, so we broadened our search to include any employees that worked at the canyons. We did meet at a restaurant in Oct. 2008, to include others in our plans and to just get together and talk and laugh. It was great. We need some help to find emails or phone numbers of some of our friends. (See the right side for names of lost friends.) I'm sure the list is not complete. I am getting new emails sent to me weekly. Some emails that were good are now undeliverable...possibly because their addresses had changed. Email me at garber.jacque@gmail.com if you have info for us. Email pictures too, and I will try to put them on the blog (if you want them displayed). Our entertainment committee is Susan Rogers, Connie Allen, & MaryAnn Jackson. We want to take advantage of all the activities and dinners that the Park has arranged, but we want to get together for breakfast and/or lunch and connect with each other.

Neil (I need a ride or can offer a ride) Barclay.

Hey, in 1955-66 I had my own show. I sang Harry Belafonte songs and was a real hit. My accompanist, believe it or not, was one Spence Maxwell (on bongo drums, yet). Maxwell went on to be a song writer and penned one of Julie (Misty Miss) Christies greatest hits.

Doc Edmunds, Bevan Cory, Cameron Cory, Spencer Roberts, Megan Cluff, Richard and Claudia Hershey, and Barbara Graham (Smith) are the only names I recall from that era. A Mr. Hansen was the lodge manager. I was the diningroom manager (after four years starting with KP). LeRoy Jennings was the one-eyed terror of the kitchen. And who could forget that Irish Tenor, Arthur Butler.

Many of these are doubtless gone (or wish they were), but maybe those of left of us from 53-56 could get together for a bridge game.

Coda: that original Lodge was still the best.

Also, by the way, one could climb Lady Mountain in those days (before Safety Nazis, you know) and I went up three times. On one occasion I took a girlfriend and nearly accidentlly killed her (story only in the event I get to the reunion).

I had a bad typo: my years were 1953-1556 - no 66. Sorry about that.

Forgive me, those of you who might be trying to stretch your memory to recall someone you couldn't have known.

You sure would remember me from the after-dinner show.
