Piano Introduction - Maple Leaf Rag
Everyone enters to Vaudeville Music
Everything that happens in life
Always happens in a Vaudeville Show
We used to make them laugh
We used to make them cry
With anything and everything you know.
With the clown, with his pants falling down
And the dance that was a dream of romance
Or the scene where the villian was mean ;
That was entertainment.
The lights on the lady in tights
Or the bride with the guy at her side
Or the doll when she gave it her all
That was entertainment.
We've an old Vaudeville Show to entertain you tonight
Scenes from the past when the stage lights were bright
Gay song and dance that will make your heart light
We have come here to meet you - to humor - and to greet you.
We hope that you'll give your O.K. to our play
Then we'll all shout and say "Hip Hurrah",
The American way.
The world is a stage - The stage is a world of entertainment.
3. Amy enters with sign - "HELLO MA BABY"
Hello ma honey, hello ma baby
Hello ma rag-time gal.
Send me a kiss by wire
You set ma heart on fire
If you refuse me, honey you'll lose me
Then you'll be left alone
Why don't, you 'telephone and tell me you're my own.
I'm a ding-dong daddy from Dumas
You ought ta see me do ma stuff
I’m a real live wire from Horner's Corner
You ought to see me strut
I got a caper-cuttin cutie by the name of Patty
She’s a little heavy laden so we call her Patty
I'm a ding-dong daddy from Dumas
You ought ta see me do ma
Ought to see me do ma .
Ought to see me do ma stuff
(I really mean it)
You ought to see me do ma stuff.
4. Amy enters with sign - "BOWERY BOYS AND CONEY CUTIES"
By the sea, by the sea, by, the beautiful sea
You and me, you and me, oh how happy we'll be
When each wave comes a rolling in
We will sink or swim and we'll laugh and fool around the water
Over and under and then up for air
Ma is rich. Pa is rich so now what do we care.
I love to be beside your side beside the sea beside the seaside, by the beautiful sea.
Ain't he sweet, see him comin' down the street
Now I ask you very confidentially, Ain't he sweet
Ain't he nice, look him over once or twice
Now I ask you very confidentially. Ain't he nice
Just cast an eye in his direction
Oh me oh my, ain't that perfection - a dooby do do
I repeat don't you think he's kind of neat
Now I ask you very confidentially. Ain't he sweet'
(BOWERY BOYS)
In the good old summer time, in the good old summer time
Strollin’ down the shady lane,
With my baby mine.
You hold her hand end she holds yours
And that's a, very good sign
That she's your tootsy wootsy in
The good old summer time.
Wait till the sun shins Nellie
Till the cloud go driftin' by
We will be happy Nellie
Don't you cry
Down lover's land we'll wander
Sweethearts you and I
Wait till the sun shines Nellie
By and by.
Bower Boys and Coney Cuties sing duet of Lida Rosa and Sweet and Low
Lida Rose
Lida Rose, I'm home again, Rose
To get the sun back in the sky.
Lida Rose, I'm home again, Rose
About a thousand kisses shy.
Ding dong ding
I can hear the chapel bell chime.
Ding dong ding
At the least suggestion I'll pop the question.
Lida Rose, I'm home again, Rose
Without a sweetheart to my name.
Lida Rose, now everyone knows
That I am hoping you're the same
So here is my love song, not fancy or fine
Lida Rose, oh won't you be mine
Lida Rose, oh Lida Rose oh Lida Rose.
Sweet and Low
Dream of now, dream of then.
Dream of a love song that might have been.
Do I love you?
Oh, yes, I love you.
And I'll bravely tell you
But only when we dream again.
Sweet and low, sweet and low,
How sweet that mem'ry how long ago
Forever?
Oh, yes forever.
Will I ever tell you?
Ah-- no.
5 Amy enter with sign – “SOFT SHOE”
Give me tht old soft shoe, I said the old soft shoe
Ah-one, Ah-two, Ah doodle de doodle dee do!
Play me that old soft shoe, and nothing else will do
That’s the dance my darling used to do.
We sang love’s refrain (just like a vaudeville team)
Danced the whole night through (we had the cutest routine)
Strolled down lover’s lane (weren’t my bonnets a scream?)
We’d harmonize, a doodle dee doodle dee do.
VAMP
That’s the dance my darling used to do.
George M. Cohan was Broadways brightest names
Pat Rooney Sr. danced his way to fame.

Girls: I’ll explain
Give me that old soft shoe, I said the old soft shoe
Ah-one, Ah-two, Ah doodle dee doodle dee do!
Give me that old soft shoe, and nothing else will do
It reminds me of the only love I ever knew.
The old – (We’re talking about the old)
Soft – (We’re talking about the soft)
Shoe –
Soft Shoe.
6. Gilded Cage
"She's only a bird in a gilded cage,
A beautiful sight to see.
You may think she's happy and free from care,
She's not, though she seems to be.
'Tis sad when you think of her wasted life
For youth cannot mate with age;
And her beauty was sold for an old man's gold,
She's a bird in a gilded cage."
The ballroom was filled with fashion's throng,
It shone with a thousand lights;
And there was a woman who passed along,
The fairest of all the sights.
A girl to her lover then softly sighed,
"There's riches at her command."
"But she married for wealth, not for love," he cried!
"Though she lives in a mansion grand."
'Tis sad when you think of her wasted life
For youth cannot mate with age;
And her beauty was sold for an old man's gold,
She's a bird in a gilded cage."
7. Chorus
Place park, scene dark, silvery moon a-shining through the trees
Cast two, me you, Sound of kisses floating on the breeze
Act one, begun, dialogue where would you like to spoon
My cue, with you, underneath the silver moon.
By the light of the silvery moon,
I want to spoon to my honey I'll croon love's tune.
Honeymoon keep a-shining in June
You'r silvery beam will bring lov’s dreams
We'll be cuddling soon
By the silvery moon.
Daisy, daisy, give me you answer do!
I’m half crazy all for the love of you
It 'won't be a stylish marriage.
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet, upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.
Shine on, shine on harvest moon up in the sky.
I ain’t had no lovin’ since January, February, June, and July.
Show time ain’t no time to sit alone and spoon
So shine on, shine on harvest moon for me and my gal.

10 FINALE
That folks is how Vaudeville looked
You've Seen it now we hope you know
How they made the laugh
How they made them cry
How every night they stopped the show
With the clown with his pants falling down
And the dance that was a dream of romance
Or the scene, where the villian was mean
That was entertainment
The lights on the lady in tights
Or the Bride with the guy at her side
Or the Doll when she gave it her all
That was entertainment
We hope that we have entertained you tonight
And showed you how Vaudeville looked at its height
Showed you the acts that were such a delight
We have been here, and met you, we liked, and won't forget you
We hope that you'll give your O.K. to our play
Then we'll all shout and say "Hip Hurrah”
The American way
The world is a stage, the stage is a world of Entertainment
ENCORE:
There's no business like show business
Like no business I know
Everything about it is appealing
Everything the traffls will allow
No where can you get that happy feeling
Than when your stealing that extra bow.
There'll no people like show people .
They smile when they are low
Even with a turkey that you know will fold
You may be stranded out in the cold,
Still you wouldn't trade it for a bag of gold
Let's go on with the show.
Let's go on with the Show
